Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Joey started playing musical instruments and singing along with his brothers at the same time he started playing sports and attending grade school.
He was in a number of bands in high school and also served as a DJ and later Program Director of Music at his high school radio station, WSTB, a popular station throughout the county.
As part of the band Know Peace, Joey played at large regional venues in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and New York. The band also recorded two original CD releases and received some regional radio play with its original music in Pennsylvania and New York.
