Folk singer-songwriter, inspired by vintage vibes of blues and bluegrass.
Biography
Laney Jones’s songwriting is as quirky and charming as her upbringing in rural Florida. Raised on an exotic animal farm surrounded by an alligator-infested lake, she artfully spins tall tales of love, life, and adventures from down in the swamplands. From a young age Laney enjoyed performing, honing her effortlessly welcoming stage presence through years of dramatic and musical theater. Since discovering Bluegrass music while attending open mics at a neighborhood coffee shop, she has rapidly built an impressive repertoire of original music and has performed at concert venues and festivals across the eastern United States.
Laney’s voice have been described as “a mix of lemon, molasses, gin and gunpowder”. Her talents on the banjo have been augmented through studying with prominent clawhammer and old-time technicians Mark Johnson and Bruce Molsky. Laney also incorporates multi-instrumental prowess on ukulele and harmonica in her live shows and recordings.
In the summer of 2013, Laney assembled a five-piece band of Florida musicians to record her second full-length album, entitled “Golden Road’. After finishing the album, the band immediately hit the road for Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in upstate New York. Performing as an emerging artist and a singer-songwriter in the round, Laney stood side-by-side such greats as Chris Thile, Del McCoury, Della Mae, and Carolina Chocolate Drops. She was also awarded the Grey Fox Bill Vernon Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music.
