Miguel Charosky

Acoustic

Born in Argentina, Miguel Charosky studied the guitar with Irma Costanzo in Buenos Aires. Once graduated, he went to Germany for further study with Eliot Fisk at the Musikhochschule of Cologne.

Winner of prizes at many competitions in Argentina, he was awarded first prize at the prestigious international Andrés Segovia Competition in Columbia in 1982. He followed this success by other prizes at the International Competitions of Geneva (1988) and Munich (1989).

Miguel Charosky has taught the guitar in several music conservatoires in Buenos Aires and in Switzerland, where he is living since 1990. He is now teaching at the Conservatoire Populaire de Genève being the dean of the Guitar Department since 2004. He has also taught at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève and given master classes in the United States and in Argentina.

In addition to his recitals of solo guitar and chamber music (duets with violin, flute and voice), Miguel Charosky has performed as soloist with orchestras in South America, the United States, and in Europe. Particularly interested in 20th century music, he has introduced several works of Argentinian composers into the repertoire of contemporary music. His concern for the interaction between word and music is exemplified in his work as accompanist to singers and in his involvement in theatrical productions and poetry recitals.
