The Oak City Rockers is a result of long-time friends and musicians Gerry Hubbell (bass) and Rick Owens (guitar). Gerry and Rick have been playing in bands of one genre or another since 1981. Chris Mueller (drums) met Gerry and Rick back in the mid 80s and formed one of Raleigh’s best and hardest working rock bands, Fast Forward. Years later, the duo began another well known Raleigh-based group, The Magic Daddys… playing the local brewery and club circuit and picking up talented guitarist Bobby Lloyd. It wasn’t until recently that Chris took up the sticks after a 12 year hiatus when Fast Forward was asked to rekindle their 80s fire once again for a one-time performance at the Pour House. An idea was formed soon after that the combination of Gerry, Rick, Bobby, and Chris was just about what this town was lacking and in desperate need of… a good ‘ol blue-collar Rock n’ Roll band that plays the covers we just don’t get to hear much anymore… Tom Petty, Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, The Beatles, The Black Crowes, The Black Keys, Chicago, Chuck Berry, and many more
