Viswas Chitnis began his sitar training at the age of fifteen. He studied under the late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan between 2000 and 2008. Since that time, Viswas has studied with Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya, Pt. Partha Chatterjee, Pt. Ramesh Mishra, and Pt. Krishna Mohan Bhatt. In addition to sitar, he also plays tabla, esraj, dilruba, guitar, and piano. Viswas divides his time between Chapel Hill, NC and Brooklyn, NY. He is actively involved in teaching and performing Indian classical music in the tradition of the Senia Maihar Gharana
