Eric Thomas has been playing guitar since 1965. He began by playing the Rock ’n Roll, Rhythm ’n Blues, and North Carolina “Beach Music” tunes that were popular in the mid and late ’60’s. Over the years he has played a wide range of material in a number of different bands. He has played in venues ranging from coffeehouses to private parties and from Rock ’n Roll clubs to country clubs. These experiences have enabled him to incorporate the blues, and country tunes into his musical inventory. More recently, through his collaboration with his wife, Helen Wolfson, Eric has brought the influences of Celtic, traditional acoustic, Appalachian music and lyrical waltzes into his music.  The collaboration with his wife, “Constellation“, is presently Eric’s primary musical effort.

Eric started his musical life as an electric guitar player in the 1960’s playing Rock ‘n Roll, Rhythm ‘n Blues, and North Carolina “Beach Music”.  In the mid-1970’s he got his first acoustic guitar.  He still plays the electric guitar though the acoustic guitar is now his primary instrument.  His musical sensibilities, though tempered by the demands of the acoustic guitar, are still informed by his musical up-bringing.  This brings a unique energy to his playing, particularly to has work as an accompanist.

Eric has written songs and instrumentals for all of his musical life.  His songs tend to be songs about real-life and topical issues, though sometimes with a humorous twist.  The songs range from the funny song like his “Occupational Angst” tunes through haunting songs dealing with life, loss, and family to the edgier material dealing with current events.

Eric’s solo shows predominately features his original music, mostly from his solo repertoire.  A few traditional tunes may be salted into the mix as well.  Instrumentally, his solo shows are performed using acoustic six and twelve string guitars.
