Knurr & Spell
Knurr & Spell is an eclectic indie rock band from Chapel Hill, NC and is the main musical project of Sean Parker of the band North Elementary. Knurr and Spell is his solid full-time… project since his former band Pleasant dissolved in 2006.

Knurr and Spell maintains the quirkiness and catchiness of Pleasant, yet adds even heavier and more stylistic and textured undertones. While Parker’s vocals could be described as David Byrne-esque, his songs may also be referenced to the catchy pop of bands such as The Pixies and Pavement.

The band band is fleshed out by Eric Hermann on drums (Pleasant, Chest Pains), Rodney Merritt on guitar (Simple, Unfamiliar, Casting Company), and Betty Rupp on bass (North Elementary, See Gulls, Betty and the Boys).

Sunnyslopes
Carrboro’s Sunnyslopes just started hitting the stage this past February when they made a fine splash with their atmospheric boot-gazing music that continues a solid local tradition.

They describe themselves as a rock band concentrating on alternative, art rock, friends, music makers, collaborators, and the local scene. They practice in a barn full of raised toilet seats.

1970s Film Stock
This Winston Salem act impresses us with experimental, instrumental and psychedelic music…  you can’t quite pin down a genre though it touches upon classic, avant-garde, shoegaze and soundtrack styles.

As a long-time Grateful Dead fan, I respectfully compare the sound to space… the space creativity that is positive and thoughtful and fondles both chaos and beauty.

Apparently, this is a solo project featuring guitarist and occasional vocalist Eddie Garcia.

“He powers his individual abstraction with fondness for Alan Licht and Derek Bailey, his guitar crying, sighing and screaming broken riffs and dissonant themes.” – Grayson Currin, Indy Week
